A World Cancer Research Fund report has found that some iced coffee drinks from high street coffee shop chains may contain up to a quarter of a woman's daily calories.

Most of the iced drinks surveyed contained over 200 calories per drink, but some contained over 450 calories and one particular drink contained a whopping 561 calories! Gulp.

Dr Thompson advised that having these types of high calorie drinks as an occasional treat will probably cause you no harm, but having them regularly will contribute to weight gain, in turn increasing your risk of cancer and other diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

Dr Thompson recommends both men and women can still enjoy coffee drinks, but should opt for unsweetened versions with skimmed or semi skimmed milk, avoiding creamy or syrup-containing coffees, as they are likely to contain fewer calories than the latter. The WCRF say that after not smoking, the best way to help prevent cancer is to maintain a healthy weight.
