The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) is a committee of independent experts that provides nutrition advice to the Food Standards Agency and Department of Health.

A new document was recently published on the SACN website about the usefulness of genetic testing to provide personalised nutrition information. SACN concluded that there is compelling evidence that a healthy balanced diet, regular exercise, not smoking, and very limited consumption of alcohol, reduces the risk of heart disease and some cancers. They believe there isn’t enough evidence to support nutritional advice on the basis of genetic testing.
